Farmers and Farm Hands

Clay Erskine grew up surrounded by beauty; his father was a national Park Ranger. Clay knew early in life he needed to be outdoors while he worked. His first career was a ski and snow board instructor, which he still does in the winters at Bogus Basin. Clay attended BSU and majored in Biology. It was not until after he married and traveled the world that he found his true love of farming. Clay is passionate about his soil, plants and his trade. So much so that when spring hits Josie considers the farm his first wife and she moves into second place.

Josie Erskine is an Idaho Native. In this state she was born and in this state she will die. Josie loves to get her hands dirty. Flowers excite her and the sight of rows of veggies makes her giddy. She always needs to activate her creative side, and she finds no better place than the garden to do that.

Farm Handsare folks who work hard to grow and harvest the food for the farm. They all have green thumbs but we like to call them the hands of the farm or the farm hands. To raise vegetables the way we do it takes many hands, these hands; seed, plant, weed, harvest, wash and deliver your food. Here are some of the pictures of past farm hand and bios of curant ones.

As the farmer I am blessed with these wonderful souls I share my day, the sun and the farm with.

Peaceful Belly would be nothing without its farm hands. We would describe our crew as a bunch of plant worshiping, dirt loving, peace activists with creative spirits. We have a crew of about 10 dedicated farm hands and about 5 dedicated volunteers.

Tim, he is a Renaissance man. Talented, Bohemian and truly kind.

Micaela is my right hand. She is patient, trustworthy and truly an old soul. Micaela does not work alone on her hip or at her hells she is followed by Felix or F man. Felix is 2 and born to be a farmer.

Tammy is a true volunteer. She devotes her life to what she believes to be truly important. She is the farm mother.

Susan is wise. She has incredible insight and she is one of the hardest workers I have ever seen.

Melissais quiet, bold and creative.  She is always thinking about others and is a good soul.  her passion for gardening and her knowledge makes her a star player in the farm. She is also our field manager for the BUGS garden class.

Justin is a traveling farmer. He has worked on  many different farms from Vermont to California.  He just graduated from The University of Santa Cruz’s Organic Farm Program.  He is witty, lively, talented and destined to farm greatness.

Scott is one of the land owners that we rent from but you can find him in the feild laughing and loving getting his hands dirty.

Robert is a work horse.  He is the field manager for our Hidden Springs Class.  He loves growing his own food and just his presence makes you feel like everything will be all right.

Working day to day with all of these people is a gift. We are truly a family farm.
